Birthday Trifle

This is the most simple dessert ever made.....and I was luckily requested to make it for the "special" birthday dessert for Boy #1.  He kind of pulled this one out of his hat because usually he says "make whatever" which is infinitely more difficult than a heartfelt request.  So for that, I am very grateful.

Lots of candles burning....he sure is old. lol

Looks a little messy but tastes really yummy!

Birthday Trifle
1 box chocolate cake mix (I used devil's food) prepared per package instructions and cooled.
1 large package chocolate pudding prepared and chilled.
2 small or 1 large container cool whip (i know, oil)
1 package heath bits (found on the baking aisle)

In the bottom of a trifle dish or serving dish, layer about 1/3 chocolate cake crumbled, place 1/3 pudding over that, then 1/3 cool whip on top.  Sprinkle with heath bits.  Repeat layers twice more, ending with cool whip.  Sprinkle the top generously with heath bits.  Allow to chill for at least 2 hours, but it is better when refrigerated over night.
I'm sure this recipe could be adapted to be much lower calorie, use sugar free cake mix, sugar free pudding, and low or reduced fat cool whip.....but that's not how we made it this time ;o
It was an 18th birthday party after all......
